How to Make Homemade Wine – The Basics

In every bottle of wine, an artistry is revealed.  Each vintage has a unique look, smell, taste and feel.  You don’t need to own a vineyard to concoct your own wine.  Homemade wine can be done by putting together the right tools, ingredients and the right amount of patience.   It is affordable, enjoyable to do and is one of the best reasons why you and your friends or family should get together.

Let’s begin.

Pour your juice in the glass gallon container and add water. Cover, and then shake vigorously to make sure the juice and water are mixed well.  Mix a half cup of sugar using the funnel right away and then dissolve the sugar completely.

Get a bowl of warm water  to add a dash of yeast and 2 tablespoon of sugar.  The yeast will need to foam up so set it aside until it is about and inch high, then you can pour it in with the mixture and shake again.

Now you’re ready for fermentation.

Grab your balloon and poke a few holes using your pin.  Replace the container cover with the balloon, secure it in place with the rubber band.  In a warm corner, leave the container for about a couple of weeks.

You will know you’re doing the right thing when you notice the balloon inflating in the next few days.  The balloon will deflate in about 2 weeks time completing the first stage of fermentation. You can now transfer your fermented wine in the other glass container, being careful not to pour in any residue from the first container.

Keep for another two weeks to make sure the flavours stick.

Feature your very first masterpieace with your friends at a private wine tasting.   This may just be a new tradition between friends if you teach them how to make a homemade wine.

Cheers!
